Responses to closed consultations

The Independent Living strategy

The Independent Living strategy consultation, seeking views on how disabled people should be involved in the implementation and monitoring of the strategy, closed on 20 June 2008.

Responses to the consultation will be published on the website this summer. The government response to the cosultation will appear on this site during the autumn.

Disability Equality: how will we know we are making a difference?

In Spring 2007, the ODI held a consultation to find out what is important to disabled people and what they think the government should focus on.

The Westminster government is responsible for some of these policies and services, and the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are responsible for others. Read about devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales (links to the DirectGov website).

The answers have been used to help the ODI develop a set of measures which we will use to find out if changes being made are improving the lives of disabled people. These measures were published in the ODI annual report in December 2007.

Summary of the consultation results

The consultation focussed on what equality means to disabled people. The report is a summary of the things people told us in their responses to the consultation. It covers the key areas in disabled people's lives including education, employment, health, housing, social networks and transport.
