Annual Report 2008

The Office for Disability's Annual Report 2008, 'Turning equality into reality', updates our role in leading work to deliver the Government's vision of equality for disabled people 2025

Our Annual Report 2008 provides an update on the role of the Office for Disability Issues in leading work to deliver the government's vision of equality for disabled people 2025. It sets out where progress has been made and our priorities for the coming year.

The Report is also accompanied by an annex which provides supporting information on the initial set of measures and baseline information, developed in consultation with disabled people, against which progress to meeting the Government’s aims of disability equality by 2025 will be measured.

Annual Report 2008 Annex: Indicators data

Introduction

The indicators published in this annex are a starting point in measuring progress towards disability equality.

This data is available in two forms.

The data linked from the table shown below presents the most accurate and up-to-date figures available to the ODI, and are amended as new data comes in throughout the year.

The total indicator data is also available in a complete, print-ready PDF at the bottom of this page. This PDF represents a snapshot of the indicator data as of 1 December 2008 and will not be updated.

The main areas covered are

We are aware that the current set of indicators does not cover all areas that disa bled people have told us are important to measure.

One reason for this is a lack of information available to measure many of the things that disabled people have told us are important. In order to fill these gaps, the ODI is working with partners across government to improve the collection of information on disability.

As part of our ongoing effort to improve the indictators selected to measure progress we have expanded the indicators data to include additional indicators (poverty, crime, and access to financial services  etc) as well as expanding  existing ones (mainly around employment and educational qualifications).

We will continue to work to improve the data collected and presented to ensure that there is transparency in relation to how disabled people's life chances compare to non-disabled people .

The evidence base contained in the Annual Report Indicators Annex 2008 constitutes the baseline from which progress on the Independent Living Strategy (ILS) will be measured.

At present, ten indicators are already part of the Annual Report:

We recognise the critical importance of tracking progress on the ILS and work is actively ongoing to expand and improve the ILS indicators suite. Additional key indicators of progress will be published online as data becomes available.
